What an Indiana registered agent actually does
Understand the registered office, legal notices, public addresses, and how to change your agent.

01A destination for official notices
A registered agent receives service of process and official documents for a business. Indiana requires an eligible agent and a physical registered office in the state. Receiving a document is not the same as giving legal advice or responding to a lawsuit.
02Understand address privacy
Using a service may keep your home address out of the registered agent field. Principal office and organizer addresses may still appear in public records. A registered agent service does not provide blanket anonymity or automatically replace a business mailing address.
03Keep coverage continuous
Before switching, arrange acceptance by the new agent and make any required change filing. Keep the existing appointment until the state accepts the update. Canceling billing by itself does not appoint a new agent.
04Act on legal notices promptly
Read urgent correspondence and contact your attorney when necessary. Document delivery and reminders help you stay organized; they do not extend deadlines or replace professional legal advice.
